The following is a translation of text taken from A Brief History of Taladria by Barius Ternby. Ternby wrote the book between the first and second Broken Age.
The Tarrasque is a being without beginning or end. Its origins are unknown, as are any methods available to kill the creature. When the beast first made its presence known is unclear, but what is unmistakable is the wave of destruction that washed across the world. The Tarrasque toppled kingdoms that had stood since the dawn of civilization. It felled the heroes that had moved mountains to connect the kingdoms of this land. Even the champions of the gods themselves could find no way to subdue the monstrosity. Then one day, as suddenly as it had appeared, the god-beast vanished. The ruins of civilization were rebuilt into towns, the towns into cities, the cities into kingdoms. The land turned prosperous once again. The fear of the Tarrasque lessened, and was sometimes forgotten, but the lingering dread of the creature and its potential return still firmly rests in the collective memory of the land it once destroyed.
