The following is taken from The Broken Ages by Cornerius Yardle. This book was published after the Second Broken Age.
The First Broken Age was a time of great stress and turmoil for the people of Taladria. In the days before, Taladria was well known as a prosperous land. The kingdoms were run without much corruption, wars were nonexistent, trade was flourishing, and the citizens were generally happy. However, that easy-going lifestyle took a sharp turn toward the worse the day the Tarrasque appeared. Seemingly out of nowhere the beast appeared in northern Taladria, along the coast of the kingdom of Nyrtel. Although the kingdom responded swiftly to this sudden threat, it could withstand the endless onslaught of the Tarrasque. City after city fell until the majority of the kingdom was in ruin. The creature then turned its sight to Nyrtel’s neighbors. Kingdom after kingdom toppled until the Tarrasque came to rest at the southern coast of the continent. It was at this point in time that the Tarrasque disappeared, for reasons still unknown. Some scholars believe that the beast came from the ocean, a relic from the time before even the gods had turned their sights on Orya. Others are of the opinion that it came from the gods themselves, sent as punishment for some slight committed against them. A small portion of historians even believe that the creature was sent from something beyond even the gods. Wherever its origins may lie, we know that the Tarrasque was unstoppable. We know that it’s wrath was quick and absolute. And we know that we were simply lucky that it’s reign of destruction did not last any longer than it did.
